The Terror Story

The first season of The Terror follows the Royal Navy’s polar explorer ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, as they embark on an expedition from Beechey Island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Their mission is to explore uncharted territory and confirm the existence and navigability of the legendary Northwest Passage. However, the ships become trapped in ice, forcing the crew to endure harsh weather conditions while facing an elusive and sinister threat lurking nearby.

The Terror: Infamy
The second season shifts the focus to the west coast of the United States during World War II. It centers on Japanese folklore, specifically the concept of bakemono, an uncanny specter that haunts a Japanese American community. The story unfolds as the specter follows the community from its home in Southern California to the internment camps, amidst the backdrop of the Pacific War.

The Terror: Devil in Silver
The third season introduces Pepper, a working-class mover who finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital due to a series of unfortunate events and his own volatile temperament. Within the institution, Pepper faces off against patients who are not on his side, doctors hiding dark secrets, and possibly the Devil himself, as he struggles to navigate this treacherous environment filled with individuals society wishes to forget.

The Terror Review

On September 10, 2024, I typically don’t give more than three stars to most fairly good TV series, but after watching The Terror Season 1, I’m awarding it four stars. The exceptional acting, top-notch directing, and captivating plot deserve recognition. It feels unjust to single out any particular actor from such an outstanding ensemble, but I was especially impressed by Nive Nielson’s portrayal of “Lady Silence.” Ciarán Hinds, Jared Harris, and Tobias Menzies are among the finest actors we have today. Additionally, I want to commend Adam Nagaitis for his remarkable performance as the complex character Cornelius Hickey. The backstory of the creature is intriguing and worth exploring for anyone curious about it.
