The Grudge Movie Story

In 2004, live-in nurse Fiona Landers leaves the Williams family in Tokyo[b], appearing distraught. Fiona tells her co-worker Yoko that she is returning to the United States, after which she encounters the ghost of Kayako Saeki. Fiona arrives at her home in a small town in Pennsylvania and is reunited with her husband Sam and young daughter Melinda. However, Kayako’s curse strikes Fiona, and she bludgeons Sam to death, drowns Melinda, and then stabs herself in the throat.

Shortly after the Landers are murdered, before anyone knows of their deaths, real estate agents Peter and Nina Spencer learn that their unborn child is likely to be born with the rare genetic disorder ALD. Peter wants to take charge of the sale of 44 Rayburn Drive, but encounters the ghost of Melinda, whom he thinks is a lost girl bleeding profusely from her nose. Peter is attacked by the ghosts of Fiona and Melinda, and is soon corrupted by the curse. Possessed, Peter returns to his home, where he murders Nina and her unborn child, and is eventually found dead in the bathtub. Detectives Goodman and Wilson investigate the murder of the Lander family. Goodman is uneasy about the house and refuses to enter it, but Wilson enters the house to investigate the crime scene. As he leaves the car, Wilson slowly loses his mind, eventually becoming hysterical after seeing the ghost of Fiona in front of Goodman’s car. He attempts suicide with a gun, but survives, but is sent to a psychiatric hospital in his disfigured state. Goodman drops the case.
