Racha (transl. Chaos) is a 2012 Indian Telugu-language masala film directed by Sampath Nandi and produced by Megaa Super Good Films. Starring Ram Charan and Tamannaah Bhatia, the film also features Ajmal Ameer, Mukesh Rishi, Dev Gill, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Nassar, and R. Parthiban, marking the Telugu debuts of Ameer and Parthiban. The music is composed by Mani Sharma, with cinematography by Sameer Reddy and editing by Gautham Raju. Principal photography began in June 2011, with filming taking place in various locations across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, as well as Sri Lanka, Bangkok, and Anji County in China—the first Telugu film to be shot there. Released on April 5, 2012, Racha received positive reviews from critics. The film garnered four nominations at the 60th Filmfare Awards South, winning for Best Choreography, and received five nominations at the 2nd South Indian International Movie Awards.

R. B. Choudary, in collaboration with N. V. Prasad and Paras Jain, produced the film Merupu, directed by Dharani and starring Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal. Production began on April 30, 2010, but initially, there was only a vague one-line concept and a song featuring Charan was filmed. After the release of Orange (2010), Charan and the producers requested Dharani to develop a full script. Dharani presented his ideas to Charan and his father, Chiranjeevi. However, when Dharani quoted a high budget for the project, Chiranjeevi and the producers suggested scaling it down.

Raj is a successful gambler living in Hyderabad with his supportive adoptive parents. However, tragedy strikes when his adoptive father is diagnosed with liver cirrhosis due to alcoholism. Desperate for money, Raj learns that he needs ₹20 lakh for his father’s liver transplant, which must happen within a month. While searching for a way to fund the surgery, Raj is approached by his rival, James, who offers him a betting challenge. James tasks Raj with making Chaitra, a medicine student and the daughter of the feared crime boss Bellary, fall in love with him before New Year’s Eve, promising the money for the operation in return. Taking on the challenge, Raj successfully wins over Chaitra, who reciprocates his feelings. However, when Bellary discovers their relationship, he sends henchmen to eliminate them on New Year’s Eve. Raj and Chaitra narrowly escape to Srisailam, but Bellary, aided by his corrupt minister friend Baireddanna and Baireddanna’s son, launches a manhunt for the couple.
In Srisailam, James comes to their rescue but is wounded by Baireddanna’s son, who then kidnaps Chaitra. As he lies injured, James reveals that he was sent by his father to protect them and shares the truth about Raj’s past. In flashbacks, we learn about Raj’s father, Suryanarayana, a respected landlord, and his best friend Raghupathy, Chaitra’s biological father. Raj and Chaitra were childhood friends. When Bellary discovers iron ore beneath Raghupathy’s land, he teams up with Baireddanna to exploit it. When Suryanarayana and Raghupathy protest, they and their families are brutally murdered by Bellary and Baireddanna, leaving only Raj and Chaitra alive. Bellary adopts Chaitra but plans to kill her when she reaches adulthood to seize Raghupathy’s land for himself.
Racha Movie Review
It was a blockbuster in Ram Charan’s career, grossing ₹73 crore and securing a distributor share of ₹46 crore, placing it second in the highest-grossing list. A significant factor in its success was Ram Charan’s outstanding performance, which played a pivotal role in making the movie a hit.
