Pathu Thala (translated as Ten-Headed) is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language neo-noir action thriller directed by Obeli N. Krishna and produced by Studio Green in collaboration with Pen Studios. The film features Silambarasan in the lead role, supported by a strong cast including Gautham Karthik, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Santhosh Prathap, Kalaiyarasan, Anu Sithara, and Teejay Arunasalam. It is a remake of the 2017 Kannada film Mufti, focusing on AG Ravanan, also known as “AGR,” a powerful crime boss, and Guna, an undercover cop who infiltrates his world under the alias Sakthivel.

Initially announced in June 2019 with Mufti’s original director, Narthan, at the helm, the film faced delays due to scheduling issues with Silambarasan, eventually leading to Narthan’s exit and Obeli N. Krishna stepping in as director in October 2020. Principal photography finally began in August 2021 and was shot intermittently across various locations, including Chennai and Karnataka, wrapping up by late November 2022. The film boasts music by the legendary A. R. Rahman, cinematography by Farook J. Basha, and editing by Praveen K. L. Pathu Thala hit theaters on March 30, 2023, to mixed-to-positive reviews. Despite the varied critical reception, the film proved to be a commercial success, grossing ₹55 crore at the box office.

AGR later confronts Naanjilar, who vows to kill him in retaliation. During the by-election campaign, Selvin witnesses a conversation between Leela and Guna, leading him to suspect Guna might be a mole within AGR’s gang. To investigate, Selvin breaks into Guna’s home, where he discovers a pen drive containing evidence against AGR. However, Guna, monitoring Selvin through his surveillance cameras, watches in Horror as Selvin is gunned down. Initially, AGR’s underlings suspect Guna of being the murderer, but AGR clears him of any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, the residents of Nesakaram learn that AGR has been funding their nursing home and supporting charitable activities through the profits of his illegal sand mining operations, which earns him respect from the community, including from Leela.
AGR soon realizes that his business manager, Sabari, is the mole behind the betrayal. After discovering that Sabari was responsible for Selvin’s murder, tipped off the CVC team about his illegal profits being transported by train, and helped Ruby set fire to Nesakaram on Naanjilar’s orders, AGR brutally kills Sabari in front of Guna. Following this, Guna assists AGR in reconciling with his sister, Samudra, who forgives her brother for killing her husband.
In a shocking revelation, AGR discloses to Guna that Arunmozhi had been bribed by a pharmaceutical company planning to create an epidemic under the guise of introducing a vaccine. Enraged, AGR kidnaps and kills Arunmozhi. He also reveals that he knows Guna’s true identity as Sakthivel but chooses not to retaliate against him because Guna helped mend his relationship with his sister. Naanjilar arrives with his men, intent on killing AGR. In the ensuing chaos, Singha is killed, and Sakthivel is shot while attempting to protect AGR. Furious, AGR retaliates by killing Naanjilar.
