Manam (transl. Us) is a 2014 Indian Telugu-language fantasy drama film written and directed by Vikram Kumar, produced by the Akkineni family under the Annapurna Studios banner. The film features a stellar cast, including Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Shriya Saran. Spanning various time periods over a century, up until 2013, the film explores themes of rebirth and eternal love. The plot centers on a wealthy businessman, played by Nagarjuna, who tries to unite a young couple that bears a striking resemblance to his deceased parents. Production commenced on June 3, 2013, with principal photography starting on June 7, 2013, and continuing in and around Hyderabad, Coorg, and Mysore until mid-April 2014.

Radha Mohan and Krishna Veni were once a loving couple, but their relationship deteriorated over time due to misunderstandings, leading them to file for divorce against the wishes of their six-year-old son. Tragically, on February 14, 1983, at 10:20 AM, they die in a car accident near a clock tower while heading to their lawyer’s office. Fast forward 30 years, their son, Nageswara Rao, has grown into a wealthy and influential businessman. One day, he encounters two individuals who closely resemble his parents: Nagarjuna and Priya. Eager to bring them together as a couple, Rao is taken aback when Nagarjuna introduces his girlfriend, Prema. With the help of his personal adviser, Girish Karnad, Rao manages to dissolve their relationship. Unbeknownst to him, Nagarjuna vows never to fall in love again.
At the same clock tower, Rao meets Dr. Anjali and falls in love with her at first sight. He assists her in admitting an injured old man to a nearby hospital and donates blood for him. This injured man, Chaitanya, is astonished to see Rao and Anjali, as they resemble his deceased parents, Seetharamudu and Ramalakshmi. Seetharamudu was a barrister who returned from London after his father’s death to manage the family estate. He was a zamindar with a passion for cars. While reviewing photos of potential brides, he chooses a poor farmer named Ramalakshmi. When approached by a mediator, she agrees to the proposal but requests a six-month delay to prepare for the marriage in line with village customs. Seetharamudu, curious about her, meets Ramalakshmi disguised as a reformed thief. With his support, Ramalakshmi’s life takes a turn as their story unfolds.

This movie offers a completely fresh story that I haven’t seen before. It’s perfect for family viewing, with a fantastic cast including the main actors and supporting characters, all of whom deliver outstanding performances that fit the film perfectly. The final twist is truly surprising and adds an exciting layer to the narrative. I highly recommend that everyone watch this Movie.
