Luther: The Fallen Sun Movie Story
Callum Aldrich, a cleaner, is abducted and blackmailed by wealthy trader and serial killer David Robey. As DCI John Luther takes on the case, he assures Corinne, Callum’s mother, that he will locate her son. Robey becomes concerned about Luther’s involvement and investigates the numerous illegal activities Luther has undertaken while serving as a police officer. This leads to Luther’s termination, prosecution, and imprisonment.
Many years later, Robey drags Corrine and the other victims’ parents to a place where he burns their dead children. Corrine visits Luther in prison, admonishing him for not finding her son’s killer. Robey records Callum’s murder and radios it to Luther while he’s incarcerated.
Luther: The Fallen Sun Movie Review
The visceral and emotional feeling associated with the original Luther series was well captured by Netflix. This story moved along nicely because it had a fair balance of new and old characters, with John clearly in the center. Andy Serkis played the role of the extremely damaged detective who appears to only be able to pull himself together when he finds a villain worthy of him, and Idris Elba was once again outstanding in that role.
Though it was a really good movie, I would have wanted to watch this as a series only to see more of the incredible acting and plot. I hope this is just the beginning of something truly spectacular.
