Amanda Sandford and her husband Clay arrange a weekend getaway at a vacation rental with their children, Archie and Rose. They encounter a man stockpiling canned food and water, an oil tanker running aground, and a blackout causing the house to be unusable.
The owner, George H. Scott, and his daughter Ruth arrive, explaining that a blackout caused the power outage. The next morning, Rose is frustrated with the Wi-Fi and TV being down, and she notices four news alerts. G.H. and Rose try to find the cause of the disruptions, but they encounter a drone dropping leaflets and a plane crash.
The Sandfords drive to Amanda’s sister in New Jersey but encounter a pile-up of self-driving Teslas, forcing them back to G.H.’s house. Ruth asks Clay provocative questions and discovers flamingos in the pool. Amanda and G.H. establish a friendly bond, but the power fails.
