Kshanam (transl. “Moment”) is a 2016 Indian Telugu-language mystery thriller directed by Ravikanth Perepu. The film features Adivi Sesh, who co-wrote the screenplay, alongside Adah Sharma. Supporting roles are played by Anasuya Bharadwaj, Vennela Kishore, Satyam Rajesh, Satyadev, and Ravi Varma. The music for the film is composed by Sricharan Pakala, and the cinematography is handled by Shaneil Deo.The story revolves around Rishi, an investment banker who returns to India to search for the missing child of his ex-girlfriend, Shwetha. Released on February 26, 2016, Kshanam received acclaim from both critics and audiences for its gripping narrative and performances. The film was later remade in several languages, including Sathya in Tamil (2017), Baaghi 2 in Hindi (2018), Aadyaa in Kannada (2020), and Kidnap in Sinhala.The production of Kshanam began when Prasad V Potluri of PVP Cinema agreed to finance the film, and Sesh’s friend, Ravikanth Perepu, was selected to make his directorial debut in Telugu cinema. Sesh and Perepu collaborated on the screenplay for nearly ten months, with pre-production starting three months after the scripting process began. They decided on a low-budget approach to ensure the project remained viable given the genre’s appeal. The film’s crew consisted of 20 members, including two of Perepu’s high school friends who served as associate directors.

Shaneil Deo served as the director of photography, while Sricharan Pakala composed the film’s soundtrack and score. Rishi, an investment banker based in San Francisco, receives an unexpected call from his ex-girlfriend Sweta after a long period of silence. They had studied medicine together and once planned to marry, but her father arranged for her to marry an entrepreneur named Karthik. Still harboring feelings for Sweta, Rishi travels to India under the pretense of attending a relative’s wedding. He rents a car from a travel agent named Babu Khan, gets a SIM card registered to his sister’s address, and checks into the Marriott Hotel.
When Rishi meets Sweta at a restaurant, he learns that her five-year-old daughter, Riya, is missing. Sweta expresses her despair, revealing that no one, not even Karthik, believes Riya exists. Rishi also discovers troubling details about Karthik’s brother Bobby, a drug addict who frequently visits their home. Determined to help, Rishi begins an informal investigation, but his attempts repeatedly lead to dead ends and conflicts with two African-American gangsters in the area. Fortunately, Babu, who has connections in the drug trade, intervenes to assist Rishi out of goodwill. Posing as a police officer named Vasanth Khanna, Rishi confronts Karthik and uncovers that the couple has been struggling with infertility. Karthik reveals that Sweta was attacked by two masked men before her car was stolen, which resulted in her falling into a coma. After recovering, Sweta began insisting that she had a daughter named Riya, complicating the situation further. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, Rishi presses on with his investigation.
