Following the release of his previous film Sardaar Gabbar Singh (2016), Pawan Kalyan announced plans to remake the Tamil film Veeram (2014) in Telugu, initially set to be directed by S. J. Surya. This was notable given that the Tamil film had already been dubbed and released in Telugu as Veerudokkade. The title Katamarayudu was inspired by a song sung by Pawan in the film Attarintiki Daredi (2013). However, in a surprising turn of events, Surya left the project to focus on his acting career, as he was cast as the main villain in the upcoming film Spyder. He was subsequently replaced by Kishore Kumar Pardasani, marking their second collaboration after Gopala Gopala (2015). Additionally, cinematographer Soundarrajan was replaced by Prasad Murella. The filming for Katamarayudu commenced on September 24 in Secunderabad.

Kattula Katamarayudu, affectionately known as Katama, is a courageous and selfless man living in the village of Oddaanchatram with his four younger brothers. Deeply devoted to his siblings, Katama often puts their needs before his own happiness. The brothers are infamous for their brawls, and their lawyer, Bail Lingam, is frequently called upon to extricate them from legal troubles. Katama staunchly opposes marriage, believing that having a wife could create discord among the brothers. While he has vowed not to fall in love or marry, his siblings secretly maintain relationships.
Eager to gain Katama’s approval for their romances, the brothers learn from his childhood friend that Katama once loved a girl named Avantika. They devise a plan to reunite him with Avantika, hoping it will reignite his feelings. However, they soon find out that she is now married with children. Undeterred, they search for another woman named Avantika, believing that the name alone will spark Katama’s interest. Initially hesitant, Katama eventually finds himself falling for this new Avantika. Conflict arises when Katama confronts a businessman named Radia, who exerts control over the village market. After Radia attempts to harm Katama’s brothers, Katama retaliates by kidnapping Radia’s son, Juttu Ranga. In a fierce confrontation, Katama ultimately demands that Radia leave the village for good.
