Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum (transl. Love too shall pass) is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi and Madonna Sebastian, marking the latter’s Tamil film debut. It is an official remake of the 2010 Korean film My Dear Desperado The story revolves around two contrasting characters: a rowdy man and an IT professional who become neighbors and form a unique bond. Initially, Nalan Kumarasamy intended to write the script as a dark comedy, but after observing the market trend with several films in the same genre, he decided to rewrite the entire script over two years, ultimately transforming it into a romantic comedy.

.Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum tells the story of Kathir, a rowdy recently released from prison after serving five years for a crime he didn’t commit, taking the blame on behalf of local councillor Thilagar. His dream is to own a bar, but upon his release, he finds that Thilagar has reneged on the promise of elevating his status within the gang.
Kathir’s life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Yazhini, an IT professional facing familial pressure about her career and impending marriage. To escape her family’s expectations, Yazhini introduces Kathir as her successful boyfriend. However, her parents quickly change their minds about the engagement after witnessing Kathir’s violent outburst against two men, revealing his true nature as a rowdy. They subsequently bar her from returning to Chennai and even prevent her from attending a crucial job interview As tensions rise, Kathir ignites a gang war by attacking the henchmen of rival gangster Moda Kumar. The councillor orders Kathir to kill Kumar, but before he can carry out the task, he ensures Yazhini can attend her interview. In the ensuing confrontation, Kathir is tragically stabbed with a rebar and left to bleed out, culminating in a poignant and tragic end to his story.
