Annie Marshall rushes out of her house, appearing to be pursued, but insists to onlookers that she doesn’t need help. She jumps into her car and drives away. That night, she sits alone on a beach and calls her parents to express her love for them. The following morning, her mutilated body is discovered on the shore. Meanwhile, carefree university student Jay Height goes to the movies with her boyfriend, Hugh. During the film, Hugh points out a girl in a yellow dress, but Jay claims she cannot see her. Feeling unsettled, Hugh insists they leave. Later, Jay and Hugh have sex for the first time in his car. Afterward, Hugh incapacitates her with chloroform. When Jay awakens, she finds herself tied to a wheelchair. Hugh explains that through their sexual encounter, he has transmitted something to her—a supernatural entity that only she can see.
This entity moves at a walking pace but always knows her location and is constantly approaching. If it catches Jay, it will kill her and then pursue the last person who passed it on. To demonstrate, Hugh waits for a naked woman to slowly approach them, showing Jay that she is being followed. He urges her to have sex with someone else quickly to pass on the entity. After driving Jay home, Hugh flees, leaving her confused and terrified. The next day, when the police are called, they cannot find the naked woman or Hugh, who has been living under a false identity.

This is what a strong Horror film should be like: featuring fantastic acting, an excellent script, and a phenomenal soundtrack. Not all Horror films need to be loud, gory, and filled with random jump scares. It Follows is both creepy and genuinely terrifying, maintaining a steady pace with the chilling concept of an entity that relentlessly pursues you until you’re dead—nothing can stop or slow it down!
The film keeps you guessing at every turn and on the edge of your seat. Some reviews label it as boring or slow, but those viewers typically expect loud and fast-paced Horror films and lack a true appreciation for cinema. I highly recommend It Follows; it’s an extremely memorable film that I believe will be regarded as a cult classic for years to come.
