Released on 20 December 2019 in India, and internationally from 25 December 2019, Driving Licence received positive reviews from critics and became a commercial hit. The film was later remade in Hindi as Selfiee, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles.

Driving Licence Movie Story
Kuruvilla Joseph, a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) at the Kakkanad RTO, is a devoted fan of Malayalam film actor Hareendran. At the time, Hareendran is preparing to travel to the United States for his wife’s medical treatment, but there’s an urgent issue delaying the completion of his film, The Great Dictator, which has already faced budget overruns. The climax of the film, to be shot on land leased from the Indian Navy, requires Hareendran’s driving licence to obtain necessary clearance. However, Hareendran realizes that his licence is missing, and the film’s producer is furious as they need to wrap up the shoot quickly.
Due to a clerical error caused during a shift between RTO buildings, Hareendran is unable to apply for a duplicate licence immediately. Issuing a new one would take time. To expedite the process, Hareendran’s politician friend, Peringodan, approaches Kuruvila, asking him to speed up the issuance of the licence. Kuruvila agrees to bypass the regular procedures and issue the licence without Hareendran taking the mandatory test, but in return, he demands that Hareendran personally visit the RTO as proof, in case any inquiry arises.

I just watched Driving Licence and wholeheartedly give it a 5-star rating! This film is an absolute masterpiece by Lal Jr. Hats off to Prithviraj, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and the entire crew — they were truly living their characters. The movie strikes a perfect balance of humor, drama, intense emotions, and moral reflections. It’s funny, thought-provoking, and makes you feel a whole range of emotions, from rage to forgiveness and everything in between. Special kudos to Lal Jr. and Sachy for turning a seemingly simple story into a captivating narrative with outstanding direction and storytelling.
I’m eagerly awaiting more brilliant works like this from the Malayalam industry. Don’t miss it — this is a must-watch film for everyone!
