Descendants: Red Lies is a 2024 American teenage fantasy musical comedy film written by Dan Frye and Lou Sommer and directed by Jennifer Pang. Produced by Disney Channel, the film is the fourth in the Descendants series, a spin-off of the previous three films, and a sequel to Descendants: The Royal Wedding. Kylie Cantrall and Maria Baker will play Red and Chloe Charming (the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming from Cinderella), respectively. China Anne McClain and Melanie Paxton will reprise their roles as Uma and the Fairy Godmother, respectively, from previous Descendants films. Cinderella and King Charming are played by Brandy Montalban and Paolo Montalban, who also played these characters in the 1997 television version of Cinderella.

following the events of Descendants: The Royal Wedding, Uma becomes headmistress of Auradon Prep and seeks to open the border with Wonderland by inviting Princess Red to join. During the opening ceremony, the Queen of Hearts stages a coup, leading to a tense confrontation with Cinderella. Red and Cinderella’s daughter, Chloe, are sent back in time to Merlin Academy where they encounter younger versions of the villains and work together to change the future.
As they investigate a plot to turn Bridget into a monster, they discover a sorcerer’s cookbook that holds the key to their mission. However, the villains manage to seize the book, leading Merlin to freeze them in place for the safety of all. Red and Chloe continue to unravel the mysteries of their mothers’ past while facing new challenges ahead.
Descendants: The Rise of Red Movie Review
In typical Disney fashion, the film was bright, vibrant, beautifully choreographed, and the costumes were just as amazing. Like many others, we felt it started strong but ended too quickly. A lot of the storylines were not developed and it felt like pieces were missing. We loved the homage to the character of Carlos.
It was tastefully and beautifully done and we felt such respect for what he brought to the film series. We thought Uma was at her best, a truly talented beauty, full of personality and grace. Overall, my family thought it was fantastic, and if we could see the full shortened/expanded version we would certainly give it a 5 star rating.
