Badhaai Do (translation: Congratulations[a]) is a 2022 Indian Hindi comedy-drama film directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni. Produced by Junglee Pictures, the film is a spiritual sequel to Badhaai Ho (2018). The film sees a couple having a lavender wedding. The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, with Gulshan Devaiah, Chum Dalang, Sheeba Chaddha, and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles.

The film was officially announced in March 2020. Principal photography began in Dehradun on January 5, 2021. The film was theatrically released on February 11, 2022. Though commercially unsuccessful, the film received widespread critical acclaim and praise. At the 68th Filmfare Awards, it won six awards – Best Film (Critics), Best Actor (Rao), Best Actress (Critics) (Pednekar), Best Supporting Actress (Chaddha), Best Story and Best Screenplay – making it the second most awarded film of all time.
The first schedule was completed on 25 February. The film wrapped up on 6 March 2021.

Shardul Thakur is a police officer who has never come out publicly and is unfortunately posted at the women’s station in Dehradun. One afternoon, a woman named Suman “Sumi” Singh, who works as a physical education teacher at Wynberg Allen School, comes to the station to report a man who is stalking her. Little did Shardul know that the man had lured Sumi on a lesbian dating app and threatened to expose her sexuality if she did not sleep with him. Shardul gets strict with the stalker for uncovering Sumi’s secret. A few days later, Shardul approaches Sumi and proposes that they get married to appease her family, who are bothered by him being unmarried in his early 30s. Although they are strangers, Sumi accepts it.
After returning from their honeymoon, Shardul and Sumi enter the police station and pose as a heterosexual couple. Sumi starts dating Rimjim, a woman who works at a clinic, but is rejected by her family after coming out. Rimjim moves into Sumi and Shardul’s apartment and forces several people to lie and say that Rimjim is their cousin.
Badhaai Do Movie Review
When this film released I had no interest at all, but its recent win at the Filmfare Awards piqued my interest and with the two lead actors who have always delivered great performances so far I decided to give it a chance.
The film is well made and deals with a very sensitive subject matter very realistically, without any over the top performances.
I also really liked the songs, they never felt like a burden in the film, rather they contributed brilliantly to the overall flow.
RKR’s performance is yet another compliment to his acting style, he is absolutely amazing!
