American Horror Story (AHS) is an American Horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, airing on the FX network. As the first installment in the American Story media franchise, each season of AHS is designed as a self-contained miniseries, featuring different characters and settings within a shared fictional universe. This structure allows for occasional crossovers between seasons and connects with the episodic spin-off, American Horror Stories. Many plotlines are loosely inspired by true events.

American Horror Story Story
Set in 1964, this season of American Horror Story follows the patients and staff of Briarcliff Manor, a church-owned mental asylum located in an undisclosed town in Massachusetts, established to treat the criminally insane. Kit Walker (Evan Peters) is accused of being the notorious serial killer known as “Bloody Face” following the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Alma (Britne Oldford). Kit insists that she was abducted by aliens.
Ambitious lesbian journalist Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson) is drawn to Briarcliff, seeking a compelling story for her big break. Within the asylum, Kit encounters other patients who claim to be unjustly committed, including microcephalic Pepper (Naomi Grossman), nymphomaniac Shelley (Chloë Sevigny), whose unfaithful husband hypocritically institutionalized her, and the unassuming Grace Bertrand (Lizzie Brocheré) from France. As Kit’s case unfolds, he attracts the attention of pragmatic psychiatrist Dr. Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto) and the sadistic Dr. Arthur Arden (James Cromwell), the latter known for conducting unethical scientific experiments on patients. The institution is overseen by the stern Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) and her naive second-in-command, Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe), along with Monsignor Timothy Howard (Joseph Fiennes), the asylum’s founder.
