When a powerful artifact called the Shikon Jewel resurfaces from within Kagome, she accidentally shatters it into fragments scattered across the land. Inuyasha and Kagome embark on a quest to retrieve the shards before they fall into the hands of the malevolent half-demon Naraku. Along the way, they are joined by a monk named Miroku, a demon slayer named Sango, and a young fox demon named Shippō Unlike much of Takahashi’s earlier, more comedic work, Inuyasha takes on darker and more serious themes, with its Sengoku period setting offering a backdrop for both violent and intense moments, although some comedic elements remain. The manga was adapted into two anime series by Sunrise: the original Inuyasha, which aired 167 episodes from October 2000 to September 2004, and Inuyasha: The Final Act, a direct continuation that ran for 26 episodes from October 2009 to March 2010. The franchise also includes four feature films, an original video Animation (OVA), video games, a light novel, and an anime sequel titled Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, which aired for two seasons between October 2020 and March 2022.

Inuyasha  Story

The story of Inuyasha revolves around Kagome Higurashi, a modern-day high school girl who, on her fifteenth birthday, is mysteriously transported back in time to Japan’s Sengoku period (Warring States era) after falling into a magical well located in her family’s shrine. Upon arriving, she encounters Inuyasha, a half-human, half-demon who had been sealed to a tree for fifty years.

Kagome learns that she is the reincarnation of a priestess named Kikyo, who once protected the powerful Shikon Jewel (the Sacred Jewel of Four Souls). During a confrontation, the Shikon Jewel is revealed to have been hidden within Kagome’s body. However, in a chaotic moment, the jewel is shattered into numerous fragments, which scatter across Japan. These fragments possess immense power, capable of enhancing both humans and demons alike, making the retrieval of these pieces critical to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.Kagome and Inuyasha form an unlikely alliance to recover the scattered jewel shards before they can be used for evil purposes. Along their journey, they are joined by several companions:

Inuyasha  Review

Inuyasha boasts a well-rounded cast of characters, each with distinct personalities and backstories. Inuyasha himself, as a half-demon struggling with both his human and demon sides, is a fascinating protagonist. Kagome brings a relatable, modern perspective to the feudal world. Supporting characters like Miroku, Sango, and Shippō each have their own character arcs and emotional depth, making the group dynamic strong.
Even the antagonists, especially Naraku, are deeply developed, with complex motivations that go beyond typical villainy. The love triangle between Inuyasha, Kagome, and Kikyo adds emotional tension throughout the series. Inuyasha’s lingering feelings for Kikyo, his tragic first love, juxtaposed with his growing affection for Kagome, creates a compelling internal struggle. Fans appreciate the slow-burn romance between Kagome and Inuyasha, which evolves naturally over time. The original anime adaptation ended in 2004 without fully adapting the manga’s conclusion, leaving some major plot threads unresolved at the time. However, this was later addressed with Inuyasha: The Final Act (2009–2010), which completed the story.
