The day after the events of Happy Death Day, college student Ryan Phan wakes up in his car on September 19. Returning to his dorm, he interrupts his roommate Carter and Carter’s girlfriend, Tree. Ryan continues working on an experimental quantum reactor with classmates Samar and Dre, aiming to slow down time. However, the project is shut down by Bronson, the school dean, due to power outages and its lack of practical applications. Shortly after, Ryan is murdered by someone disguised as the school mascot, Babyface, and wakes up once again on the 19th.
Tree explains her own experience of reliving September 18th, and she and Carter agree to help Ryan. They discover that the reactor was responsible for creating the time loop. The masked killer pursues Ryan, but Tree unmasks the attacker to reveal another version of Ryan. This alternate Ryan warns that the original must die to close the loop. Frightened, Ryan activates the reactor, releasing an energy pulse that knocks everyone unconscious.
