In 13th-century Afghanistan, Jalal-ud-din Khilji, the ruler, schemes to seize the throne of Delhi. His nephew, Alauddin Khilji, seeks to marry Jalal-ud-din’s daughter, Mehrunisa. Their wedding is arranged, but on the night of the ceremony, Alauddin engages in an affair with another woman. This indiscretion is witnessed by a senior courtier, Shareef Pasha, who is subsequently killed by Alauddin. When Mehrunisa learns of this horrific act during the wedding, she is left horrified. Despite the circumstances, the wedding proceeds, and Alauddin is appointed as a lead general in Jalal-ud-din’s army.
Meanwhile, in Singhal, princess Padmavati accidentally injures the Rajput ruler of Mewar, Maharawal Ratan Singh, while hunting in the forest. As she tends to his wounds, Ratan Singh shares that he has traveled to Singhal to acquire rare pearls for his first wife, Nagmati. Their time together deepens their connection, and they eventually fall in love. Ratan Singh proposes to Padmavati, and after receiving her father’s blessing, they are married.
