Jhund (transl. Herd, unorganised group) is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports film inspired by the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of the NGO Slum Soccer. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sandip Singh, Raaj Hiremath, Savita Hiremath, Nagraj Manjule, Gargee Kulkarni, and Meenu Arora, the film is brought to you under the banners of T-Series, Tandav Films Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, and Aatpat Films. Filming began in December 2018 in Nagpur. Directed and written by Nagraj Manjule, the film features Amitabh Bachchan, Akash Thosar, Rinku Rajguru, and Ankush Gedam in lead roles. It was released in theaters on March 4, 2022.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in recent times. It offers a very realistic portrayal of life, featuring non-actors who resonate with the same energy as Amitabh Bachchan in terms of performance. Hats off to Bachchan for choosing to portray the biopic of Vijay Barse with such outstanding skill.
The film illustrates how the lives of underprivileged slum children undergo a drastic positive change, transforming from drug and alcohol addicts with criminal backgrounds to representing India at the International Slum Soccer Tournament. This inspiring sports biopic features mesmerizing music by Ajay-Atul and marks the Bollywood directorial debut of Nagraj Manjule. The movie conveys a powerful social message: we shouldn’t judge underprivileged children based on their language, personality, or past. Instead, as a society, we can change and contribute to their lives by offering love, affection, and proper guidance, just as Vijay Barse did in real life. A must-watch movie! I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets nominated for or even wins an Oscar.
