Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (titled simply Glass Onion on screen) is a 2022 American mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson, with Johnson and Ram Bergman serving as producers. A standalone sequel to the 2019 film Knives Out and the second installment in the Knives Out film series, it stars Daniel Craig reprising his role as master detective Benoit Blanc. This time, Blanc is tasked with solving a new case centered around tech billionaire Miles Bron (played by Edward Norton) and his close-knit group of friends. Johnson had already envisioned several films featuring the Benoit Blanc character before the release of the first film. A sequel was initially greenlit by Lionsgate in 2020, but in March 2021, Netflix purchased the rights to two Knives Out sequels for a staggering $469 million. The cast was assembled in May of the same year, and filming took place on the Greek island of Spetses in June and July 2021, with additional scenes shot in Belgrade, Serbia, through September.

The Disruptors—Birdie’s assistant Peg, Duke’s girlfriend Whiskey, and the rest of the group—travel to Miles’s private island for a gathering. Famous detective Benoit Blanc unexpectedly joins them, claiming he was invited by Miles. However, Miles privately admits to Blanc that only the Disruptors were meant to be invited. Despite this, Miles allows Blanc to stay, assuming someone else forwarded him an invitation. Before dinner, Miles shows off his impressive glass sculpture collection and the Mona Lisa, which he has on loan from the Louvre.
He also reveals that his mansion is powered by “Klear,” a hydrogen-based alternative fuel that his company, Alpha, is preparing to launch, even though Lionel and Claire know it’s dangerous. Blanc quickly solves the murder mystery game Miles had prepared for the group and privately warns him that all of the Disruptors have motives to want him dead. Following an argument, Andi storms off. Suddenly, Duke collapses and dies after drinking from Miles’s glass, causing the group to panic and suspect that Andi tried to poison Miles. Lionel attempts to call the police, but they learn no one can arrive until the morning. Amidst the chaos, they discover that Duke’s pistol is missing, and the mansion’s power goes out. During the blackout, Blanc finds Andi, but she is shot by an unknown assailant. Blanc then gathers the group and declares that he has solved the mystery of Andi’s murder.
