Kathal Movie Story
The film begins with the arrest of local gangster Veer Singh “Veer” as part of an undercover operation led by Inspector Mahima Basool (Sanya Malhotra). A press conference announces the arrest of SP Angel Singh Randhawa, but Mahima’s superiors do not reveal what role she played in the operation. Mahima’s friend, Constable Saurabh, points this out to her, but she ignores him.
Two exotic kathars (jackfruit) disappear from a tree in the garden of MP Pateria in Moba Town. Mahima takes charge of the case. Despite the absurdity of the case, the entire police force is under intense pressure to crack the case before the fruit ripens. Throughout the entire incident, Mahima is passively discriminated against on the basis of caste by her subordinates, including Saurabh’s father. SP Randhawa promises her that he will promote her to DSP once she solves the case, but she refuses and asks him to promote Saurabh instead, thus reducing the hierarchy between them.
Kathal Movie Review
The film is not a big budget movie with an all-star cast striving for attention, but it conveys that very message in the most simple and surprising way. Sanya Malhotra does a great job carrying the entire burden of the film. The story highlights the fact that it is more important to be a good person first than to be an influential person.
It is a satirical comedy whose plot revolves around the discovery of Uncle Hong’s jackfruit stolen from the backyard of an influential politician. The story brilliantly captures how the entire legal system is sometimes dominated by the mundane aspects surrounding the lives of the rich and famous celebrities while the poor fail to receive timely justice. The supporting cast and crew including veteran actors like Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Raghuvir Yadav etc. have also done a great job. The background music highlights the theme of the film well.
What I love about this film is that it exposes the hypocrisy of the political and administrative system in such a subtle and light-hearted way. He doesn’t exaggerate at all.
