Diablo 4’s Story
It takes place 50 years after players defeated Masael in Diablo 3. Just as people begin to rebuild their lives, an ancient threat called Lilith returns. Her few followers call out to her.Her influence on the inhabitants of Sanctuary runs deep, making Sanctuary even darker than before. She wants to conquer the world, and to do so, she must first attack Hell, destroy the Great Evil, and seize its power. The first target of her search is her father, Mephisto.
Meanwhile, Inarius just wants to return to Heaven after so many years. But he believes he can’t do that without killing Lilith. He tries to pave the way for his return by eliminating those who get in his way. Best example: he killed her son Rathma, who wasn’t by his side. Rathma was the leader of the Nephalem and Necromancers. In some ways, the player and Inarius’ goals are aligned – they both want to eliminate Lilith – but their ultimate goals are different.

BioWare describes him as either an ancient Elven god or a traitor to his people, but his motives are unclear and his methods are sometimes questionable. He is considered a trickster god involved in a dark and dangerous game. The title has been changed to “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” to clarify the focus on the player and their party, and to emphasize the importance of the new hero and his story.
